5 years ago, Jobless and without savings, I decided to fearlessly move to london to find new opportunities. Initially I was supposed to stay at my friend's until I find a new place but without a job it would have been pretty difficult. However, my friend's boyfriend knew someone who was actually looking for someone to live with as he had a spare room in a huge house. So he asked me if I was interested and I said yes... Gold ! This guy (Roger) didn't only allow me to live with him for free but he also cooked, helped me with my CV, my communication skills and appearance. But he mostly believed in me. RESULT.... I found a job in a huge corporation paying me an excellent salary, and in only 4 years my salary had tripled with experience and promotions...
I went cliff-diving yesterday in an abandoned quarry. In my excitement I forgot to check my pockets before jumping, and now my keys are at the bottom of the quarry.
I launched two simultaneous ad campaigns for my brand new luck-based web site only to have it crash on the day.
When I was a sophomore in college, I would twirl my keychain around my lanyard like a big windmill, and it would always agitate my roommates and teammates. One day, around 5ish, as we were walking out of the elevator, I twirled my keys and they shot out of my hand and down the elevator shaft. One kid passing by stopped and said to me, "Wow, that's gotta be one of the top ten worst things that can happen." Took me an hour to fish it out with 3 hangars and a flashlight.
On Tuesday, the 23rd I left work early to take my daughter to the doctor. As I was driving down Route 80 in the pouring, slushy, snowy rain trying to get to the doctor on time my windshield washer decided to explode. I had about 18 miles to go and was in the middle of Paterson, NJ. Not a nice place to be. So in the end I had to drive 8 miles in the emergency lane with my head out the window trying to see. Fuck Me.
I was driving down the highway, when all of a sudden the minivan in front of me lost its front passenger tire. There were sparks shooting everywhere so I quickly changed lanes as the minivan pulled over, but the tire just kept on going. It was really odd driving next to a tire cruising by at 80 miles per hour with no car attached to it. It must have travelled at least a mile before it started rolling to the side of the road, and then it somehow managed to perfectly veer off into the onramp of the next gas station.
I was on my way home from a friends at 2 AM and stopped at a red light in a quiet empty town. There were no cars anywhere in sight so I said what the hell, I'm gonna run this red light. About halfway through, I noticed a car pulling up to the intersection behind me. Just as I was wondering what the chances were that it could be a cop, flashing lights lit up my rear view mirror. Hello points on my license.
I live in New York City, and on a dark rainy night I went for a haircut after work. Just as it came time to pay, my husband walked into the salon holding my wallet. I had lost it on the dark rainy streets of New York without even knowing it. A stranger had found it, went to my apartment to return it, got it to my husband just as he was leaving the building, and my husband brought it back to me just a moment before I would have realized it had even been missing. Best of all, cash, credit cards, license...everything was just as I had left it.
I was walking on the sidewalk in the city when I saw a shiny penny on the pavement. Not wanting to waste an opportunity to grab a penny heads-up, I immediately bent over to pick it up. As soon as I did a HUGE icicle dangling on the store awning behind me crashed down onto the sidewalk where I had just been standing.
I was on a cruise and on the last day, went to the casino and put $20 in a slot machine and after about 5 pulls, won over $500. I cashed it in and went to the final Bingo game where they were raffling off a 7 night cruise for 2 to the Western Carribean. Figuring that it was a waste, I bought 1 $20 raffle ticket... and won the cruise too! So about 20 minutes after winning $500, I won a cruise!
When my grandmother passed away she left me a beautiful antique ring in her will. I wore it every day until I lost it at a friend's house. We looked over her entire house but never found it, and I was devastated. Six years later, I went to a wedding where my same friend was a bridesmaid. I couldn't believe it, but she was wearing my grandmother's ring with her dress. As it turns out, I had lost it in her yard, and HER grandmother found it the next day and saved it, never knowing who it belonged to. When she passed away a few years later, she willed it to my friend. When we figured it out she gave it back to me, and I've had it with me ever since that night.
I decided to go surfing on a cold October morning last year. I woke up early, grabbed my gear, and drove to the beach before the sun came up. Despite the excellent conditions, there was no one else in the water. I paddled out, struggled to get past the heavy whitewater. Eventually I broke through, and I stopped to catch my breath and watch the sunrise. And then without any warning, two giant, fully grown dolphin jumped completely out of the water, inches away from the front of my board. They crossed each other in the air, and hung suspended in front of the rising sun for a split-second - an image I'll remember for the rest of my life. I looked back towards the shore and realized I was the only one who saw it.
